Amazon is trying to consolidate its presence in the Indian market. The
company has recently launched an application for a specific group of people in
India. Name of the app is ‘Kindle Lite’, and the function of this app is to put
more than 30,000 e-books at the disposal of Indian customers who are using the 2G internet. Let us find out more details of
this interesting story.
It has been a
while since Amazon has started doing business in India. The majority of Indians
are familiar with ‘Amazon.in’, while some of those are using other devices from
Amazon such as Amazon Kindle e-readers, Fire TV and so on. With the boom in
internet technology, things have changed dramatically in India.
However, India is
one of those countries where you will find two contradicting situations, i.e.,
people getting the fastest internet through the optical
fiber and people using 2G internet
connection. Amazon has seen these two extreme scenarios and thus, decided to
make an app for the ones that are on the 2G
network. Amazon has now launched an app by the name of ‘Kindle Lite’, which
will cater to the needs of those who are still using the 2G internet.
The size of the
app is just 2 MB, and it doesn’t consume much space after installation as well.
The purpose of the app is to provide more than 30,000 e-books to Indian consumers.
The books are available in six different languages, i.e., English, Hindi,
Marathi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Gujarati.
Amazon is moving
on with a very smart strategy. The company has outlined a goal for the Indian market, i.e., to provide e-Books in the
hands of 300 million internet users who are either connected to 2G/3G/4G &
LTE network.
Amazon knows how
much potential is available in India, therefore, the company wants to tap the
right channels at the right time to attain the maximum benefits. Amazon knows
one thing that it will be tough for them to focus on the entire Indian market,
so they are going to focus in parts so
that the right product can be pitched to the right section of people.
Amazon believes
that Kindle Lite is going to be a huge hit in India, but it is important for
the company to identify as to what Indians like to read the most. Only then,
the company would be able to achieve the maximum from the Indian market. It will be interesting to see
how this app performs in India, and this app will set the tone for the company’s
future in e-Reader niche.
For those using 4G
internet connection, they can install Kindle app and enjoy reading their
favorite books without any issue. The reason Kindle app hasn’t been pitched to
the people using the 2G network is that it is heavier than Kindle Lite app.
